That time when mixmag gave away a pair of Steve Lawler’s shoes free for every reader? Glued to the front of the magazine. I still remember the carnival atmosphere in WHSmiths Hull. Peak clubbing.

My mate booked him around that time and on his rider he had a milk crate.
The only time I’ve ever seen him was on the terrace at space. Didn’t go to see him either.

Think it was 2001 where I saw Lawler on the Terrazza at Space and then headed into La Discoteca at midnight for 6hrs of Sasha and Digweed.

Saw Lawler once in 2004 during the tribal dark drums era, in LA. Tore the place up. Might have been the red GU mixed comp release tour. Place was overflowing with raver girls, European and American. Even moreso than a Sasha night, which was usually dominated by fairly stuck-up Asians. First time I got lucky with a rando, you don’t forget those. Pete Tong opened.
