mono-stereo The breach of client confidentiality is what ultimately did it for her but she was on a sticky wicket as soon as she lied about why they had cut him loose to a BBC journalist (citing commercial reasons and not his politics). Farage is nothing if not a slick media operator so she picked a fight with the wrong man.

Yeah if they wanted to get rid of him they could have surely found some other excuse, and without having to create such a dossier. The whole thing was handled terribly from start to finish.

They would have difficulty showing there was an objective justification if they declined customers on grounds such as political belief. That would be because of the likelihood of claims being brought for discrimination and reputational damage. Ultimately that will be why they argued he was no longer eligible for an account with them after he paid off his mortgage.

I don’t think it was a breach of confidentiality. I think he submitted a Data Subject Access Request under the DPA and GDPR as they would have held data concerning him, which would have been why the dossier came to light. It was mentioned in the press that he was discussing it with the Information Commissioners Office.

the 40 page dossier is a lot of work they have been doing on him. He’s a odious individual in my view, but no need to be doing all that background, and certainly not briefing the press

RichM whether we like it or not, it’s also a free speech issue. Banks shouldn’t be in the business of debanking people they disagree with politically. Farage may be the cause celebre but he’s far from being the only one. Natwest is basically still a publicly owned bank too
