Watched the body cam video of the Nashville shooter getting ‘neutralised’ within two minutes of the cops entering the building - fearless. Credit where credit is due, pigs did a good job there. Total 180 from the other shooting in Texas think it was, with the videos of them holding back sobbing hysterical parents and doing fuck all else.

I cant see any type of gun control in the US during my life time. The rest of the world seems to forget the US is a very young country born from rebellion from an oppressive government. Its in their DNA the story of rising up against the Brits and seizing control. Installed from a very early age at school. I’d say 50% of Americans I met when living there brought up the War of Independence within the first hour of me meeting them. The point being, without the right to arms that rebellion would never have happened. Hence why its such a coveted right to many. Its the essence of the Union. The fact nowadays the Govt has nuclear submarines and drone fighter jets vs their Wall Mart AR15 doesn’t really register that the right to bear arms is meaningless in todays world.

I feel like the country has gone through the various stages of country development ( independance / civil war / industrialisation / immigration etc etc ) that took European countries hundreds of years in a very short time frame in an already semi-developed world. Some things have “stuck” in the past and have been left behind with a somewhat medieval mindset. Gun ownership being the main one.

The thing that bugs the fuck out of me about the 2nd Amendments nut jobs is that the wording, meaning and definition of arms are completely different to their interpretation - stupid cunts.

Kinda the other way around. The ‘right’ to bear arms was included in the US Constitution as part of the Bill of Rights in 1791, 8 years after the end of the American Revolutionary War. As it turns out, the only time the US population has actually needed to bear arms against the tyranny of government, it didn’t have the ‘right’ to do so - it just did it anyway. Go figure etc etc.

I’m not sure I believe the argument anyway - I think it’s a convenient excuse for gun ownership for a bunch of people that just like to own and shoot guns.

I think you’re right though - I can’t see a pathway to significant gun control in the US. I’m not sure how much of a difference it would really make at this point. There’s something ridiculous like 1.3 guns per adult member of the population in the US. No gun control advocate that I’ve seen in the past 30 years in the White House has had the political capital to do anything about it, and I don’t see that changing in my lifetime…

Another driver of the sheer number of guns in the US is the sheer size of the place and the fact the police would take ages to respond to an incident. I lived in Nashville for a few years and you’d go miles then see a really nice house on acres of land. A tempting treat for anyone who wanted to rob. Normal run of the mill people would have a gun at home and no one would bat an eyelid. Its so inbuilt in the culture there.

The whole culture of fear relayed in Bowling for Columbine is spot on. Americans are bred on fear, the bogie man, the native americans, the Brits, the north/south, communists, immigrants…..the list goes on. Arm and be ready!

Biden isnt the man to sort this out and who knows how it ever will in my life time. Apathy has just set in. A cost of living in America.
