Mad_Cyril i feel that this rule probably worked in the 50s when there was no traffic, but just doesnt equate to modern Britain. I drive on the M25 twice a week and there is no way the cars could all keep left, it’s gridlock already

BUT, if there’s space, you should stay left unless you’re overtaking. If that’s not possible then fair enough, if it is possible and you elect to avoid, then you’re (not you personally) a cunt.

Possibly, haven’t read the Highway Code since I passed my test, just have some vague recollection of reading in a paper.

I drove back from Leeds to Oxford last night at 70 mph on my GPS on the motorway (fucking electric car, only got home with 8 miles range left!)

You get overtaken and some twat pulls in front of you in lane 1 and then slows right down. You overtake them at 70 and they burn off again. And hills. Jesus, as a regular M40 driver, going up the hill at Lewknor people seem unable to keep their speed up. Lorries fair enough, but twats in a car who just hold their foot at point x on the accelerator and then suddenly slow in lane 3.

Doing the school run is always an interesting one. There’s a really thin country lane should be a one way. Saves about 3 mins off a journey at max. It’s got a sign saying ‘no wide vehicles’ and it’s not kidding. Still doesn’t stop an array of cunts from driving up it. Usual school run mums in thier panzer tanks, tesco / asda food vans and even an artic lorry once. Absolute cunts forcing the entire lane of traffic up onto the pavement for a mile either with a sheepish ‘eeeh aint I a cheeky scamp?’ or worse just a total failure to even acknowlege the chaos they are causing. Absolute whoppers the lot of them.

No, the people that have this obsession with getting back to the left hand lane are the most entertaining on the road. They seem to be obsessed with it, but have no problem driving over the speed limit, veering across the carriageway, cutting in front of people with this self righteous obsession that they’re doing the right thing. They ignore that people should move into the middle lane at entrances and exits to motorways, or that you can overtake more than one vehicle at a time and veering in front of people isn’t returning to the lane when it is safe to do so. What’s even worse is when they think that they should force people driving at the speed limit into a slower lane because of their desire to drive over the speed limit. Anyone that has done any advanced driver training, even police driver training will know that they tell you to drive in the middle lane when there is no traffic on the road and move to the left only when a faster vehicle is coming up behind and overtaking. That doesn’t apply to bellends driving at 100 mph, flashing their lights or tailgating.

Dry-Tinder Also see my first point. Left lane obsession is not always considerate driving. When I’m approaching a motorway junction I’m in the middle lane (people turning off in the left) and I fucking stay in the middle lane until a line of cars have safely joined.

gcw I fear I am guilty of the middle lane thing on motorways. The first lane is too slow, the fast lane full of cars doing 80mph plus, so the middle lane just feels right.

Millsy I was on the A530 between Nantwich and Crewe last week and got cut up by a Jeep being driven at high speed on the wrong side of the road. The driver was an angry looking chap in a vest sat beside his equally angry looking other half. There were two children in the back who were both crying. All I heard the driver shout was ‘get put of my way you flaming galaa!’ but in an estuaries accent, which I found rather bizarre. He looked really cold.
