Maybe I’m getting old cynical, but some of the genre terms on places like SoundCloud and Beatport are just plain ridic. Top faves are ‘organic house’ and daft cunts calling their mixes ‘storytelling’ and then proceeding to play the most mundane paint-by-numbers mix imaginable.

What are YOUR faves? Discuss.

Only listen to any mix unless it is tremenballs or any cop.

Anything with the term Melodic in the title.

I think the same about music journalism.

Similar to a good travelog really, those who are able to find a good angle are a rare breed. They tend to have a sense of humilaty, able to get underneath somthing and find an angle. I’m thinking yer Palins, yer Dom Phillipses.

Mills logging back into SoundCloud and Beatport after a 10 year hiatus?

Tropical House made me chuckle.

Lilt anyone?

Also labels like ‘deep house’ used for some wanky yank EDM spring break shambles.

Wrecking ball peak time POWER prog is my favourite genre.

This is one for sure. The original white label with the banned ELO sample was really really rare. Then some cunt bootlegged the bootleg and it came out looking exactly the same. To the point where fuckers can’t tell the difference. I only know mine is original because I had it way before the bootlegs.
Hardkiss couldn’t get ELO to agree so on the release they had to copy it with their own guitar riff and it took forever to sort which led to nearly 2 years before it came out and obvs by then things had moved on and nobody wanted the version that Sasha and diggers had been playing for years anyway.

“Techno” when applied to weak 126bpm EDM shite to try and make it sound cool even when they’re using ABBA and Lion King samples etc.

My least favorite memory of my ibiza trip last year was stumbling into the amnesia back room at 6am and hearing some horrific ABBA gimme gimme gimme techno remix. WTF.

Stumbled my way back out of there and back to the terrace pretty sharpish.

        mjh I can imagine!

Who was playing? Or what was the night?
