A haven for Xenophobia
If you’re looking for a club that embodies the opposite of inclusivity, look no further than Watergate in Berlin. Despite claiming to be a “progressive” establishment, this club is nothing but a haven for xenophobia, ageism, and elitism.
As a tourist from South Africa, I was shocked and appalled by the treatment I received at the door. When I asked why I was being turned away, the woman at the door simply said, “We do not allow tourists.” When I pressed her for more information, she sneered, “Welcome to Berlin!” It was the most xenophobic experience I have ever encountered.
But the discrimination didn’t stop there. The woman also made disparaging comments about my local friends, calling them “too old” to enter. The ageism and elitism on display were frankly disgusting.
If you value inclusivity, compassion, and acceptance, steer clear of Watergate. This club is a breeding ground for hate and exclusion, and it has no place in a city as diverse and liberal as Berlin. Don’t support an establishment that reinforces an outsider mentality and makes people feel like they don’t belong. Choose a club that embodies the values you want to see in the world.
