Kumquat one of those voices when you hear it makes you think everything is ok - that all the horrible things of life exist in some other place. bit like hearing old Des Lynham……….or the excitable timbre of Barry Davies . ….or the greatest of all: Ritchie.

LT42 totally. not just the quality though - the sense of being wrapped in a bubble of tv sport - a type of safe alternative reality where nothing bad really happens - a completely nostalgic feeling of life being simpler even though I know that from day to day life was sometimes good, often dull and sometimes terrible. I think I’ll just go and watch the second series of Minder again!!

Mad_Cyril wild that the actor that played him in a movie died before him. Sam Shepard. Looked it up and Jesus he was born in 1923. Doubt anyone thought he’d live to be 97.

He was truly unique and lived life to the max.

Loved the dit about him being sent home as per the rules in WW2 but he somehow wangled a meeting with Eisenhower and blagged him to stay on a fight. The rest is history.
