bosstrabs you’ve not really clarified how it is a problem. I’ve answered all the points you’ve raised so far.

It’s actually like dealing with someone with Asperger’s at this point. I know how it works, you fail to see how your answer, while accurate, is problematic to many people.

IT’S PROBLEMATIC BECAUSE THE AVERAGE VOTER CANNOT DIRECTLY REMOVE AN EXECUTIVE THEY WANT TO GET RID OF.

Does the problem not partly lie with decades of misinformation from our eurosceptic press, rather than the mechanism itself?

A big part of the problem is the education system. As an example, I went to a Catholic school and whilst the sex was fantastic, there was one year where I did 5 hours of RE a week (including a mass) opposed to 3hours of maths.

Why are kids not taught politics and about real life finances - mortgages, interest rates, inflation, loans, taxes, VAT etc.? You know real things that will become apparent in your life as opposed to a load of old shite of no use to anyone.

Old-Dutch Er, we were. In a state comprehensive in the mid 90s. It was called PSE but has other names in other schools, such as ‘Civics’.

Old-Dutch Why are kids not taught politics and about real life finances - mortgages, interest rates, inflation, loans, taxes, VAT etc.?

I do wonder this myself. I’ve worked with relatively bright people in the past who turned out to be financially illiterate and have gotten themselves into all kinds of bother as a result.

It should be mandatory - in a curriculum that all kids have to learn

It’s literally part of the national curriculum and has been for years!

Force them to watch the Martin Lewis show

I didn’t have any classes on it Dave and the school I went to is one of the best ‘grant maintained’ schools in the county based on GCSE and A-Level results.

There was no PSE - we got Religious Education

Old-Dutch That’s probably why - it’s not assessed / examined so it ’s probably totally fucking binned off by exam- results obsessed Heads

Yeah but it should be assessed. It should be something you have to study and learn - not a fucking side-show that kids switch off from.

Hahaha. I was taught that too.

They got something right with their curriculum

bosstrabs The only thing I remember about year 7 Maths is when my mate Mike farted and the entire class ended up being sent out.

mono-stereo Great japes. Our Maths classroom had windows onto the corridor running all along one wall of the classroom. Whenever any lad walked past they would do the walk that would make it look like they were descending some stairs that weren’t there. This happened almost every day for a whole school year. Hilarious & Co.

            bosstrabs AN EXECUTIVE

And this is an area where you’re being obtuse and misleading - it’s not fully an executive in the sense it usually applies in a nation state; you’re overestating how much power they have. The European Council and the Council also in effect have significant, or even dominant, executive powers.
