Cambridge academic tweets “White Lives Don’t Matter” and “Abolish Whiteness”:
Cambridge University defends the academic’s ability to express themselves, stating “The University defends the right of its academics to express their own lawful opinions which others might find controversial and deplores in the strongest terms abuse and personal attacks. These attacks are totally unacceptable and must cease.”
Not only that, but the next day Gopal was promoted to full professorship:

The same University last year cancelled a visiting fellowship that had been offered to Jordan Peterson, claiming that ““[Cambridge] is an inclusive environment and we expect all our staff and visitors to uphold our principles. There is no place here for anyone who cannot.”
By extension, can we now conclude that Cambridge University’s “principles” include racism and hatred of white people?

Regarding freedom of speech it clearly isn’t any more - the person involved in the (ill-judged, but legal) Burnley banner stating “white lives matter” lost their job. However, the Cambridge professor who tweeted the comment (potentially prosecutable under the ‘incitement to racial hatred’ law) stating that “white lives don’t matter” got promoted.
If that isn’t already 1984-levels of doublethink then I don’t know what is.
Not to hand any support to Hugo here, but having read up a bit, that prof is a fucking moron.
The circular logic and the metaphoric use of “life” rather than literal, when convenient, doesn’t make any sense. Maybe it does inside of the lily white Ivory Towers of academia where she lives? Dunno. I guess that’s what happens when you’re born of an Indian diplomat. afforded a life as a world traveler, given an education in Vienna, and then a position as an English Professor at Cambridge. One’s narcissism becomes a fake sense of solidarity. I’m sure she gets what it’s like to be a poor black kid in East St. Louis. Not to go all ad hominem, but maybe shut the fuck up?
To go further down the unpopular opinion route…I have a Doctorate in Public Health. I don’t go around calling myself “Dr. jonnatonyeah”. Why? Because I can’t prescribe shit. I’m a doctor by letters only. You teach English, love.

I wad under the impression that some of those tweets by that professor were photoshop jobs and she’s currently taking the mail to court for libel for printing them. But maybe I’m wrong.

The UK has officially went to shit. I get that people generally say that as they get older and become more informed about politics but we have a crooked cabinet and live in the age of zero accountability. Not to mention the surge of xenophobic racism that’s making it’s way back.
