Along_the_Wire I agree we shouldn’t need food banks. But the reason we need food banks is not, in my opinion, because the amount of Government hand-outs is too small. Do you know how much the UK spends on benefits? Go on, have a guess. Or Google it.

I think it’s terrible that honest, hard-working people can’t afford to live decent lives and feed themselves and have a good basic standard of living. Genuinely, that is a horrible thing to live with knowing that you’re part of a society that traps people in poverty like that.

It is no coincidence that those countries that had the biggest fiscal stimulus during lockdown like the UK and the US have got the highest inflation rates and can’t raise interest rates quick enough now. alistair to be fair, it depends what the government spends it money on. If it spends the money on removing supply side capacity constraints, then longer term it reduces inflation. If the government spends it’s money on building and staffing a massive new Diversity Training office in Manchester, then yes, it doesn’t help the issue of inflation.
