C_J i’m saying that if you give 70 million people access to “free” healthcare, there’s a danger they will feel able to lead less healthy lifestyles.
I just don’t think people work like that. In the same way that the death penalty doesn’t stop anyone from committing crime, free health care doesn’t make us all smoke 60 a day and go free climbing at the weekend.
You have the safety nets to look after all of us, as it’s the empathetic thing to do, you do it knowing some people will abuse it, but that’s okay, because the greater good is served and there is contingency for the abuse, and you educate and incentivise the living fuck out of people so they hopefully don’t ever need the safety net (see the government backed anti smoking movement of the 80s and 90s, sex ed in the 90s and 00s etc).
