The point is that increasing your corporate tax rate in general exerts downward pressure on the incentive to invest and employ in your country making it a difficult thing to be in favour of if you want a well-paid, employed population paying the taxes needed to fund the freebies for the ~~scum~~ unfortunates in life’s great lottery.

I found that to be a really odd thing to say given that a) no, it doesn’t suggest that at all and b) even if it did, most companies generally are looking to expand all the time aren’t they? Truss is obviously playing to the gallery, where as he clearly isn’t. Why could that be? Perhaps he has the political acumen to realise the best path for his career is to be as far away from the front bench as possible. Truss is a useful idiot.

my genuine belief is that he thinks he’s the right guy to minimise the pain of this impending crisis and get us through the recession with as little collateral damage as possible. And I agree with him. The guy knows his shit.

Problem is even in the unlikely event he manages to win, as a relatively moderate conservative he’s gonna run up against his own party which has been hijacked by the right.

C_J That’s kind of it though, there are good and bad companies, some that are looking to expand and others, like water companies that are in a closed sector, have the market cornered, or have a big enough slice that they are neither looking to grow or even invest in themselves. Companies like supermarkets that are in cahoots with each other, happy to fix prices and treat the people of the country as a cash cow to feed their share holders. Non of them want to get into a price war. I reckon they can contribute more.

Amps very interesting. you seem to be arguing that the problem here is a lack of capitalism - not enough competition, too many cosy monopolies, high barriers to entry etc. - this I can get on board with. Surprised to hear such enlightened thinking from a man of your persuasions though; don’t expect Sir Keir to be proposing market reforms along these lines any time soon. I’d support proposals to tackle the problems you have astutely identified above.

Indeed. Take the “red wall” for example - hapless voters living in shitholes who see thier quality of living standards deteriorating. Capitalism relies on pluralsim, that is to say we need a balance between the powers of busniess, goverernment and the public. Just look at the fucking state of the USA for the direction of travel, or the behavour of the likes of Jacob Rees-Mogg, who is now openly trolling the public. And then on the other hand you have equally useless cunts like Corbyn.

We’re just gonna end up with one demgogue after the other unless we collectively reframe our thinking on socialism. Trickle Down Economics isn’t working.

C_J I’m not particularly interested in what you call the mechanism, more that I want to see an active government, interested in governing, interested in regulation of markets, interested in taxation, interested in nationalisation, interested in the NHS, interested in making sure the nation, the whole nation, is taken care of, rather than just the already rich.

I’d also like to see some of them guillotined, but I’ll settle for the above before we get to that… in fact if we can have the above I might be willing to forego the guillotining.
