The reason that the NHS is collapsing is because the Tories have been instrumental in its downfall. It dates back much further than Covid and follows year on year funding cuts. The NHS had to restructure its services, make redundancies, close units, restrict the range of hours or services it offers. Brexit, courtesy of you know who, saw to it that an organisation that already had huge problems with filling vacancies for doctors and nurses struggled even more.
The government have led a systematic campaign to undermine and push the NHS into collapse, specifically so that its services could be privatised. The vultures have been circling for a long time for lucrative contracts to deliver its services privately. This process has been happening piece by piece.
When you say “rip it up and start again” you’re essentially saying introduce a private healthcare system similar to the US where much of the population can’t afford or don’t have health insurance and something like 30% of personal bankruptcies are related to people having to sell their homes to pay for treatment.
