In my opinion, she set herself up for failure from the off by using the extreme right nutcases in the party (namely the ERG) to leverage her way to power. Total opportunism and ambition clouded her sense of realism and perspective about her ability to occupy the top job.
It’s partly an indictment of where the real source of power lies in the party right now and the absolute state of everything, but also the complete absence of any competence in the party whatsoever.
As was said on the radio the other day: Johnson’s cabinet was equally incompetent but the only saving grace for Johnson was that they were handpicked for their unwavering loyalty to him. Truss hasn’t got that and is being led by people who now have someone in their clutches to give a voice to their depraved ravings and far right fantasies that can unleash their vitriol, unbridled corruption, callousness and rapacious greed. She only secured power by pledging to deliver on that but it also means she takes the hit for it and the fallout that comes with fronting project mental.
Absolutely pitiful state of politics. Even hardened Tories doing their best to play down their dwindling faith in the party right now without owning up to their mistakes as contributors to the shit show that everyone can plainly see.
