My thoughts exactly. Sunak has the potential to get the newbie bounce that will fool some of the electorate into thinking that the party is improving. On the flipside, if a GE is ₂ yrs away, things are going to get even more fucked and that is ample enough time for the Tories to blunder into more incompetent shit - always happens like night follows day, given enough time.
