whatever Anything by The Who.

Tell you what is or at least was overrated by these. Tommy. ‘The first rock opera’. You don’t hear much about it nowadays but it always used to appear in the top 50 albums of all time. It’s absolutely fucking shite. Some of the song are just puerile nonsense. Plus Townsend is almost certainly in need of the nonce hammer but somehow escaped.

‘Nonce hammer’ gets a lol though.

Also overrated: Cheap Trick. One truly great song and a good live album (Live at Budokan), but it’s not that good (some Yanks seem to think it’s amazing).

Sugar - Copper Blue, another quite boring supposed ‘gem’ of the same hideously named genre, ‘power-pop’.

bosstrabs Love their Dream Police album.

Way of the World & Gonna raise Hell are great tracks.

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds. Well produced and some catchy pop, but never understood how it consistantly ranks so high in “best albums of all time” lists.

      U2 - War
      REM - Out of Time

Both albums sold on a couple of great tracks

Dry-Tinder Both albums sold on a couple of great tracks

In the case of Out of Time, the singles (Radio Song, Shiny Happy People, Losing My Religion) all give me a fucking headache.

I want to change my vote, Out of Time is an absolutely dogshit album.

New Adventures in Hi-fi and Document are REM’s best.

Not sure its overrated. It sold millions but I don’t know any REM fan who places it among their best. Murmur however…

            Fair point.

In the 90s, I seem to remember everyone had it in their Ikea Benno CD racks, from your alternative university slags right up to your Def Leppard-loving uncle.

bosstrabs yup, I’d consider Automatic for the People to be far superior. Famously got a then record $80m multi album deal from Warner off the back of it and sales of subsequently went through the floor.

Automatic for the People was an excellent album, pretty much start to finish, but I never listen to it, again because of the singles - the ubiquity of Everybody Hurts and the tweeness of Nightswimming.

bosstrabs Kind of agree with that. Still love Drive and Man on the moon

As a Springsteen fan I’ve got to say that Born To Run is massively overrated! Only track I play off it is Tenth Avenue Freeze Out. He’s done so much better!
