Smallman1 Dubman A few weeks ago I priced a job at for a lady. It’s a nice big house in a very nice area. My price was just under £2000 plus materials. She had another quote from somebody else for £4500. If you’re going to get any work done by any tradesman make sure you get a few quotes. Very true. The quotes for my roof ranged from £10k to £4k. Went with the £4k option, obvs.
Along_the_Wire Smallman1 I can’t help of our dear friend BF with his ‘you buy cheap, you pay twice’ mantra.
Millsy Dubman. Have you ever had any kind of ‘confessions of an interior decorator’ type caper? You know the sort of thing. Husband away on business. Mrs O’Flaherty turns up at the door in a pink negligee and mules and makes suggestive comments about the size of your rollers. Next thing you know its ‘ows yer father’ and cash in hand. That sort of thing.
Dubman Millsy I’ve been in the game for nearly 25 years now and I also know a lot of other tradesman. And it’s never happened to any of us although one of my electrician mates reckoned it’s happened to him year’s ago.
-si- Millsy What are your taxi drivers like over there or do you lads use trains mostly? It’s fucking amazing the amount of 20 stone plus drivers who have told me about the unbelievably fit 21 year olds who sang karaoke on their hairy microphones as they had no money to pay their fares!
Dubman Some people’s mentality is that if they pay more then they’ll get a better job or product which is not always the case.
Smallman1 Tbf it was an absolute disaster but the job they were paid to do, they appear to have done. Left a trail of destruction though, including bullying my 89 year old neighbour.
Millsy Did they do any joist repairs? What sort of flashing did they use? Is it a pitched roof or flat?
Along_the_Wire Millsy Ed will not have a fucking clue. To be fair, I could only answer the pitched or flat roof bit
Smallman1 Millsy Did they do any joist repairs? What sort of flashing did they use? Is it a pitched roof or flat? Literally no idea!
Millsy Did they use corrugated plastic? When you look up, can you see the sky through the roof? Were they Irish?
Smallman1 Think they were of an Eastern Europe persuasion. They were really unfriendly but incredibly efficient. Upset the neighbour though like I say, put a piece of guttering on her side of the party wall and she rightly hit the, ahem, roof.
Millsy Unfortunately I’ve just started a new job, but would love to be a roofer. Tops off, currant bun and a cup of rosy, wolf whistling the dorises, Nel’s Transport Cafe for breakfast rolls. Loverley!
