How is everyone enjoying their TV-sound? I’ve had a early 2000s 6.1 Yamaha av-receiver for years, but only ever used it with two speakers. I finally got a cheap Yamaha center and surround-speaker set, and wow are movies better now. The front speakers are big, and the TV-room small so no sub for now. I think I’ll upgrade the amplifier now too to a modern one with HDMI, because I only get surround sound with the blu ray-player. Streaming I watch with Chromecast for Google TV, and it doesn’t decode Dolby Digital Plus (which the streaming apps use) down to Dolby Digital, which is what the optical cable can handle. So streaming is still in stereo.

This shit I feel can get as much out of hand as any audio-stuff.

My six year old bose + subwoofer is on its last legs. Sometimes fart sounds come out when I’m listening to fist thumping prog.

This thread should help.

Sky Glass (Philips basically) with dolby Atmos surround sound. Thought I’d hate it, but we love it. Very immersive.

I’ve got the Samsung HW-Q90R - bought in Nov 19 along with the 75” Sammy - perfectly times for a lockdown. It’s been updated obviously, but it works brilliantly. The sub is tremendous.

Millsy …always rated Nakamichi, THE Rolls Royce tape deck back in the day

Unbroken1 indeed. Their soundbar is the best in the business, but one hell of a unit.

rhouses just stay away from home theater-forums. Like any hobbyist-forums they too are full of assholes. I’ve not asked any guestions myself, but looking at them the typical response to any “I have this and this and I have this problem” guestion is met with “you’re an idiot for buying that, you should have got this instead.” Not helpful at all.

Perhaps just don’t eat so much rhouses?

I bought an LG soundbar and Sub for 30 quid off a smackhead Gumtree when i lived up in Edinburgh. Does the job nicely.

@Homegrove You mention HDMI, I think you need HDMI with ARC so as to control volume and have it turn on and off with your TV remote. Unless you’re a man of many remotes.

mono-stereo yeah, I can do remotes. Earc these days. Arc can’t really do Atmos I think? Whatever I’m getting it’s going to be 7.2 with Atmos capabilities even if I’m not using them. But I think I will, I can hook some small speakers in the ceiling.

I hope you all go deaf.

Fuck it, pulled a plug on a Sony AV receiver. My blu ray-player’s Sony too, so one less remote if I can’t get the arc HDMI-thing to work. It’s dolby atmos, so I bet I’ll be looking at height speakers in no time at all, because 5.1 just doesn’t cut it. 😂

I’ve got SONOS for music so went with their soundbars and subs. Both sizes of each plus Ones for surround. Really happy with both set ups, tho I’m no audiophile tbf. Plus you can link them all as one system to provide neighbours more reasons to detest you.

Had to endure a Sonos Bose debate once, where I honestly couldn’t given a fuck… brain was melting. The Sonos did sound good tbf.
