Mad_Cyril this was what I was referring to with you buying expensive stuff to keep in their boxes.

Got Civil War 4K Blu Ray in the mail today, and it is by far the best reference disc to show off your home theatre to folks with. The Dolby Atmos sound is incredible in it. I also loved the movie otherwise, unlike most here. Importing that disc from the UK was not cheap(Nordic release is disappointing, regular Blu Ray with a 5.1 sound), so I better actually like the movie too. 😀

It dawned on me today at the pool what you were saying 😂😂

Have decided to get moving on the project myself.

    How hard can it be!?!?

I thought civil war was mreh. But now I know there’s a reference quality blu-ray of it I’m willing to give it another try.

Millsy some people actually buy movies they don’t like that much for the technical specs. I see it all the time in the collectors/ home theatre groups I am in in Facebook. I don’t have that kind of money.

Animal Farm in 4K is a mindscramble

Would you like me….to be Trotsky? (In George Galloway accent)

Just installed the Apple 4K TV thing, hard wired to the router, in the cinema room.

Massive image improvement, can auto adjust to the video / audio output and seems the telly can handle most.

Just need to sort the surround out now, waiting on the plumber to come and do the radiator move first.

Anyone know if you can run with a half setup, so just front speakers and the sub? Would mean I can at least start but wondering if not having the rear speaker up would mean sound gaps!

Mad_Cyril your AV-receiver should automatically adjust for the amount of speakers if you set it up right. Don’t be afraid to read the manual.

Not sure, it’s a Denon. Out and about so can’t really check

Mad_Cyril ok when you do, I can check out for you how to set it properly for the fronts (I assume you have two bigger speakers and the mid? and a sub.

Thanks HG, plan on having a crack when I get back.

If I get stuck, will give you a shout 👍

Have it working, but can’t find the mic supplied to do the balancing.

Will do until I can, it won’t have got far!

My understanding is if the front delivery can do Dolby Atmos then you make do without rears. But you need something to fire upwards and forwards so the sound comes back off the ceiling and deceives your ears it’s coming from behind. A lot of soundbars use this to compensate for not having rears but I imagine rears will sound better than even the most compensated front end setup. At the end of the day it’s usually a competition between aesthetics and sound quality.
