Saw him at the first Coachella in I think 1999 (tremendous time all around) and he ripped the roof off this small tent; right after “alleged” rapist May (who was also excellent, mind). When he was in his full dork faze, glasses and all, he was the best going. No problem saying that. He took tracky, boring, repetitive music and made it incredible. I’d put peak Hawtin against anyone.
