ScottBailey So you think he wasn’t a good songwriter and as an overall artist over many years wasn’t as good as people say he was? Which is what overrated would mean, as opposed to, not liking his music which is an entirely different conversation. You can dislike an artist or band’s music but still respect their work.

I wouldn’t be George’s biggest fan by any stretch but claiming he was overrated is just nonsense. Not enough of them around anymore sadly. The machines and leeches have taken over.

LT42 depends if you think you can rate something by merit or not I guess.

If I can only rate George Michael by the amount of records he sold, then I’d have to admit he’s not overrated.

But I think it’s possible to rate something by merit. If you can’t, then I’d also have to rate Mark Rothko as an artist (which I don’t) on the fact that his painting are popular and sell for a premium.

Thought all art was subjective…

alistair they divide opinion. Bands that have been around as long as them and are still active are few and far between, the body of their work speaks for itself. Are they underrated? Daft question.

Of course it is. Maybe the use of overrated is the issue. A genuine singer/songwriter/performer as successful as George Michael was, being labelled overrated is ridiculous but everyone is entitled to their erroneous opinion, mate.
