There’s meant to be a serious chance of the best Aurora in decades tonight.

Without getting into the science too much, this guy is usually on point and there are other sources that are often kind of “could be tonight or tomorrow” who are now more like “holy shit its hitting us earlier than we thought” and we will get it soon after sunset instead of often having to wait til your 3ams and stuff. So I’m heading out now.

If you want to see it, do get out into darkness, its a rare chance for the whole of england - so hopefully they are right. Enjoy

And if you can’t see it, sometimes phones in night photography mode can pick it up apparently. I’ve never done it yet so I’m heading out with the camera to see if I get lucky.

Sod all here, might walk up onto the Downs in a bit and have a look

mono-stereo Not seeing anything in Oxford.

Buddy of mine in Didcot sent me some amazing looking pics.

You could apparently even see them down in Ibiza, and I forgot them and went to bed at midnight. 🤦‍♂️

Seen loads of photos of people in London who even saw them. Ffs I had no idea

Was asleep. My FB feed is full of WONDER.

Not seen, not feeling any FOMO either

Had it here on the Wight Isle. Looked incredible. Last time i saw it I lived in Scotland and have never seen it this far south

Had a great time out last night. Learned a few bits about it and where I’d go next.

It was an “extreme geomagnetic storm” which last hit Earth in 2003, so Friday’s event was rare. We are much more used to seeing the Northern Lights limited to Northern parts of the UK. It is very likely to happen again tonight (from 10:30pm UK time or at least 90 mins after your sunset in your country).

    Things I’ve learned:

    1. The more you look at a camera, or a phone, the less you see. Close your eyes for a minute and open again and more will reveal itself.

    2. Being around passing cars (such as heavy traffic in St Marys Lighthouse) makes you go from seeing the colours, to not

    3. The camera shots here, pick up far more than your eye will - but if you get into real darkness (I will next time) then you become much more part of it

    4. These lights dance and move like slowly moving curtains!

Really grateful for this experience, there will be more Aurora events but this one was particularly strong.
