Had a great time out last night. Learned a few bits about it and where I’d go next.
It was an “extreme geomagnetic storm” which last hit Earth in 2003, so Friday’s event was rare. We are much more used to seeing the Northern Lights limited to Northern parts of the UK. It is very likely to happen again tonight (from 10:30pm UK time or at least 90 mins after your sunset in your country).
Things I’ve learned:
The more you look at a camera, or a phone, the less you see. Close your eyes for a minute and open again and more will reveal itself.
Being around passing cars (such as heavy traffic in St Marys Lighthouse) makes you go from seeing the colours, to not
The camera shots here, pick up far more than your eye will - but if you get into real darkness (I will next time) then you become much more part of it
These lights dance and move like slowly moving curtains!
Really grateful for this experience, there will be more Aurora events but this one was particularly strong.
