Rekordbox 7 Thread (for DJs)

Homegrove I suppose it depends how you like to use RB. I tried 7 for a couple of weeks and didn’t like it.

Matt I’ve used Traktor Scratch for 19 years and never had any of this nonsense. I lasted about a month with Rekordbox 🫣

7.12 is newly out. I’ve not seen it but they’ve tweaked something that may solve an issue of mine where they have added clicks in to view all tracks alongside the playlists compared with 6 (I have stayed on 6 all this time) but 7.12 now has some new feature that makes it more simple to do such basic steps again. Every power user coming from 6 seemingly hated it so I do hope it’s better now

Dan I’ve never had any real issues with Rekordbox, other than because I don’t like the newer versions, I seem to be stuck on 6.8.5. I may move to one of the other platforms when I get around to updating my setup. I’ve been thinking about moving on from the DDJ 1000 for a while now, I’ve just had too much going on to think about what I want as a replacement.

I am using 6.8.5 too, as some others have mentioned. Is it worth the risk of upgrading to 7.2 or best sticking with an older version that doesn’t cause any hassle? This is a for an on average, once a month user, not someone who mixes every day now.

Good news is you can install 7 and keep 6

Weirdly they share the same database so no harm trying it out.

On the most recent rekordbox 7 I’ve actually (finally) had reliable experiences but it’s had a nightmare until around June this year.

@NasserAlazzawi I’ve dropped from Core to free in Rekordbox now - I thought you basically kept Core with a hardware unlock? Is free basically the same as Core if you have that hardware unlock which I have with my XZ? I don’t play out with a laptop, so it’s not a major problem, but when I’m setting things up I like to use Performance Mode

Yeah mate its similar / the same as Core.

Other devices I have added which unlock extra things for us:

Lighting Mode unlock - Bought a used RB-DMX1 which, connected to a laptop, whilst DJing in Performance mode on the XZ unlocks RB Lighting Mode for free. This controls DMX lighting in time quite well with phrase / build up / breakdown / chorus etc (only works in rekordbox performance mode though - not the usb sticks!). For examples of what this does on a basic T bar see background behaviour: Slow Energy vs Higher Energy. I have also found out this system works with CDJ-3000 if they are connected to the mixer via ethernet, and the laptop is also connected to the back of one CDJs USB B inputs - it’ll do the same thing without the need for DJing from the laptop (CDJ-3000 x RB-DMX1 lighting explainer video)
DDJ-XP2 will unlock DVS without subscription so you can DJ your digital collection on control vinyl for a one-off cost. There is a bug with XZ and Macs though which Pioneer can’t resolve, so defo best to use this on Windows laptops with RB control vinyl.
