Along_the_Wire Test match wickets are not supposed to spin like a bottle top on day one. I have driven on smoother roads
alistair it’s not ideal, but India put up 615 runs on it and we were nowhere.
Have booked next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off so I can watch the cricket and get absolutely sozzled in the process.

I don’t think England’s spinners bowled that badly. Leach took 6 at 29, Moeen 8 at 28. 600 odd runs from the opposition shouldn’t be an insurmountable challenge.
The issue is that India’s spinners massively outbowled ours. Ashwin 8 at 12, Patel (a debutant) 7 at 14.3.
Some of that is a better Indian bowling performance, but I think England’s batsmen have to face facts - they played poorly. They assumed that what had worked so well in the first test would work well in the second. I also think their heads dropped on day 1, and they never recovered.
Quite simply we were outplayed.
Yep. Well and truly. Didn’t hear the Indians moaning about the wicket when we hammered them in the first test in the same ground.
