benson Facebook also reminded me of this story. Ledge. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-27735086
Dan Homegrove A lot of inaccuracies in that opening scene, but gives a good idea of what a bombardment feels like.
mono-stereo The good folks at Dolmio just released charity single “We’ll eat (bolognaise source) Again” as part of the D day festivities.🥳
Millsy Kicking myself at not setting up the Etsy shop in time. Still got a few thousand ‘The Queen, Captain Tom and Paddington Bear across the rainbow bridge’ tea towels to shift.
Dubman benson I also went on a school trip back in 82/3. I don’t think it had any effect on all of us who went. But this week - especially today I almost came to tears listening on the radio to some of the stories that were told. It all started on Sunday while watching antiques roadshow. They had old boy who landed on the beach in 6″ of water and said all he was worried about was his wet socks. He then said that some the landing craft opened their doors to early. Which meant some stepped off in 12ft of water and didn’t stand a chance due to all the kit they were wearing.
Dan Dubman Soaking wet clothing including webbing with ammunition and then trying to dodge an MG42 with a 1000 rounds a second fire rate.
Mad_Cyril Dubman almost came to tears listening on the radio to some of the stories that were told Was the same watching TV interviews last night and this morning. Ended up recording the 09:30 ceremony so I can watch in peace - and not worry about blubbing!!
Dubman Dan I can’t imagine how scared those young lads would’ve felt crossing the channel overnight before landing on the beaches.
mono-stereo Smallman1 Thank god our lads were able to fill up on Tim Martin’s blitzkrieg belly buster baps before departure. Otherwise we might all be speaking German!
Dubman Mad_Cyril Shit. I missed that. Was stuck on M25 after an accident.. will it be on the iPlayer?
