Been a snorer for most of my adult life with noise levels that could compete with a steam train. Wife was observing me (and recording mostly to fuck with me) while I sleep given it’s been on another level recently; she felt I’m also constantly holding my breath while I’m snoring. Finally did one of those check ups while you sleep, had a bunch of equipment hooked up. Turns out I’m only getting 70% of oxygen levels (95% being the norm) and I hold my breath 80 times in an hour while I’m sleeping. Some other alarming stats as well. Turns out I have a severe case of sleep apnea, genetic from my father’s side, but weight has also done me no favours.
Anyway, I’m currently using one of those CPAP machines, and while it’s annoying and makes me feel quite geriatric, I can’t tell you what a game changer this has been in my life. My energy levels are through the roof and lasting through the day. Tend to get a bit sleepy in the afternoon, that’s disappeared as well. Doctor has said another couple of years without it I would end up with serious heart problems.
Given most of us are on the same boat age wise, if you’re massive snorer and finding yourself inexplicably lethargic through the day, get one of these check ups done.
