alistair I don’t mean the purchase, I mean the business model compared to Facebook/Instagram, Google, and perhaps TikTok.

Brands barely invest in Twitter for marketing, they mostly only get money from evil political parties looking to brainwash people with propaganda. And even that has a work around with the bot armies.

Not to mention, killing Vine because of short-term thinking, and then having TikTok become a phenomenon minting crazy revenue and having full control of influencers and content creators.

Also, Twitter’s active user base is tiny. They might be the loudest, and might be the first to ‘break news’ etc etc, but really, it barely makes a dent when you’re looking to monetize.

People are usually expected to adhere to different principles and standards as employees to in their personal lives and as customers.

If you’re a fan of a football club you can usually get away with hurling abuse at the manager and players when you’re attending a match, and you can openly discuss the tactics with your mates. However, if you’re a player for the team and slag off your teammates and the manager to the press, and leak your team’s tactical instructions, you won’t last very long.

Elon bought Tesla with money he’d accumulated first from starting and selling Zip2, then from starting and selling X.Com/Paypal. His father only gave him $28k for a minority share in the early-stage funding of Zip2 alongside funding from other angel investors.

Elon Musk’s father also still lives in South Africa. Elon moved to Canada when he was University age to study at Uni because he had a Canadian passport from his mother.

Putting aside the fact that Elon’s money comes from a blood soaked gem mine, I would think/hope that any rational person would see the risk in having yet another form of communication being bought up by a billionaire. Almost every major news outlet it now owned by either a major corporation or billionaire. Applauding a social media outlet being controlled by a billionaire is blatantly ignorant, especially when the party in question is incapable of understanding that you can’t shave your fucking head after you’ve had a hair transplant.

Err, that’s kind of inherent in the very nature of a large and valuable company. Twitter also just used to be owned by another billionaire in Jack Dorsey.

Plus, one slight exception in the UK could be the Guardian in that it’s owned by a trust; albeit that’s still a very wealthy organisation with other financial investments, and that hasn’t stopped it being one of the shittest rags of all.
