    Has anyone checked this out? Another game dev forum that I use that’s been going for 20 years has announced they are closing down in March as a result of the rules coming in - Apparently the people that run message boards are going to be legally on the hook for the content people post and / or legally need to be able to prove 24/7/365 moderation is in effect and the forum complies with a stack of other rules and regulations (e.g. terms and conditions of use legally drafted up).

    Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I’m sure the mods don’t want the plod taking them to court for vast sums of cash for non-compliance either. Is the board domiciled in the UK at the moment?

    (FWIW This other forum is setting up a discord channel to replace the forum - they considered a private sub reddit but it’s still a bit murky as they don’t want to get monetized by reddit down the line)

    Surely there are different rules for forums with minimal users / posts per month. Will have to do some digging.

      Why did wally have to spill the beans on this topic, instead of us making ed chairman of the moderating board and carrying on as normal…

        -si- Apparently not - the laws coming in are really shoddy / blanket coverage with no exceptions or guidance. The mods of that other forum have apparently joined a group of forum runners to get guidance from the government but they aren’t taking the chance that it’ll come in and exempt them.

                    Feel like some forward thinking is needed here. Let’s cut to the chase, and accept the reality of the situation. We need to volunteer Ed to go to prison now, and agree that courts are at liberty to apply additional sentences for any future transgressions we make, as they require. If we go too far, we offer the death penalty to appease them. Frankly, it’s the only fair way of dealing with it.

                    Just imagine a court going over the content in here 😂
