Mad_Cyril exactly MC - many are not seeing the bigger picture…. personally quite happy to see United not follow through on Sancho at the price Dortmund are demanding, despite the fact he would undoubtedly add to the team. Btw you read about the covenants bond holders have on United if their profits go sub 60m odd… all a bit creaky if true!

Anyway, if recent signings are anything to go by, it’s a strategy that is paying dividends - Fernandes and Van der Beek are looking like astute buys so far.

Jules72 It’s not so much what they end up paying for a player, it’s the longevity of each transfer. Why does it take so long to put a bid in and weeks for a counter bid? It just drags on endlessly and needlessly. Liverpool and Chelsea got the bulk of their business done in a matter of a couple of weeks.

SM001 think that long negotiation process is only the past season or two? I’m pretty convinced it’s about trying to regain some credibility and it’s something they had to do after overspending on the likes of Macguire and Wan Bissaka (good as they may be imo)…. they had become a laughing stock the way they would always cave in during negotiations.

SM001 We’re talking to players now about signing for us in four years time, not sure many teams out there are putting that kind of work in. The more I look at Klopp and things like the throw in coach, the more I think we have the German Sir Clive Woodward of footy.

Jules72 It goes back to when Moyes took over. Fellaini had release clause of 23.5 and stalled until the deadline and ended up paying 28m. Not a huge stretch but completely avoidable. The Maguire deal went on for 4 months when it could have been done in just a couple of weeks. I could go on but i’m starting to weep.

alistair true although we only paid 35-39m gbp…. anyway, indeed Klopp has the charisma to tempt players to Liverpool - apart from wheeling out Fergie, who else has those powers of persuasion
