I have no issue with well behaved dogs pretty much anywhere in public, but I can understand why some people wouldn’t want them in restaurants. Indoor bars and pubs don’t make much sense to me though.

It depends on the dog.

I wouldn’t take mine in because he’s not settled until everyone is sat down, and he is sat on someone, and they have stopped moving (standard Dachshund behaviour).

This was manageable when he was a puppy and less determined to hunt down everyone’s fucking food.

Some of my mates dogs are perfect for pubs etc curled up resting, not reacting when people walk past or food is served.

I love our dog but he can be a proper wanker at times

That’s it. There’s obviously training involved, but some dogs are just better suited for relaxing under a table in a busy environment.

This is what dog owners fail to understand.

No dog is ‘perfect for the pub’. About a third of the population would rather they weren’t in there at all (two thirds believe you shouldn’t be bringing your flea-ridden, shite-caked hound to a restaurant) (source: YouGov).

In Berlin it’s debatable if dogs should even be allowed in the streets - the owners barely ever seem to pick up after them and the so the streets are paved with dogshit. It’s vile.

Dubman I can’t speak for every German city, but Berlin is still a bit different from a lot of Germany. If you go to a more traditional, well-to-do west German city such as Munich then it’s not an issue and the streets are clean.

Berlin still has a lot of feckless people, or ones whose liberal/laissez-faire attitudes also extend to their dogs.

Today in the café I most often visit, there were two people who had their dogs sat up on the friggin’ seats.

I did ask one of two owners a while back and he didn’t care that it happens - iirc he said something about having a dog himself and dogs being “clean”…

It’s a bit odd as they generally put a lot of care in to their establishment, but in this case he seemed blinded by his own pathology.
