smashdad Kevin - What awful news.
There are rare points in time when a dj’s taste appears to completely align with your own. Jon’s absolutely did with me for a time, particularly with his ‘autobiography’ mix, the Bedrock 2 deck warm up with Donner Pass and Before You Break on it, the Gatecrasher SS warm up mix etc etc. I went to Ibiza in 2001 and took a CD wallet with a lot of Jon’s mixes in there - an all time fantastic trip with those mixes as a soundtrack. I asked a while ago on here for someone to put up his mixes (as some I have are stuck on old MP3 players etc) and I’d been listening to them as a soundtrack to swimming of all things the latter half of the year just gone.
I made contact with Jon through either the GU or Bedrock board, I can’t remember which - when he was looking for new music. It was at a time when I was in a production honeymoon period just churning out track after track after track. He was the first (only?) person ‘in the music industry’ who was overwhelmingly enthusiastic about my music. I’d be sending off CDR’s to Chingford almost monthly and he’d ring me up without fail to waffle on about how wicked it was, like nothing he was hearing at the time. This led to me creating the additional production on OS2. Without Jon I’d never be able to say that I’ve released music on Bedrock 🙂. I subsequently met him and Graham at gigs, Clapham, his Studio in Haggerston etc.
smashdad Not a single one of us is perfect and Jon was no exception, but the enduring memory my times with him will leave is of his completetly infectious enthusiasm for the music he loved, his crazy ability to blend tunes
Echo that. That and his use of the word ‘lush’.
