Can’t have the bearnaise sauce that comes with the Dover Sole.
Walk a mile in my shoes.

Smallman1 you’ll have the option of plain grilled too.
Things just got REAL interesting!
They do Rum Babas?
I went to Bocca di Lupo yesterday with my best mate who’s over from Puerto Rico - not seen him in two years.
Ate here last week.
Was mediocre.

Incredible food last night and a bottle of Raki that has me shooting lazers out of my eyes today. Molto bene.
Sheeky’s was tremenballs.
Had a cracking afternoon in there.
What’s Raki like? Ouzo? One our reps was trying to get us to buy a few bottles a few months back but having an extensive spirit list (other than American whiskeys) isn’t our thing.
jonattonyeah I’ve seen people comparing it to Ouzo but other than being a clear vodka type spirit, there’s no real comparison. A good Raki like Tekirdağ or Boğaziçi with the right amount of water and ice is great. Yeni Raki is the more expensive one but I’m not a fan as its too sweet and the aniseed flavour is too strong.
I remember Mategreen on Bedrock saying they drank Raki with cola. I can’t really explain how ridiculous that is other than it’s akin to stirring cuppa soup granules into a Guinness. Wherever they were doing that I reckon they were well out of view of civilised people. Its really only drank with food, mainly seafood and mezze. It wouldn’t be a bar thing really.
Quite envious about Harvey gig.
bosstrabs I mean there’s defo Turkish dishes on there but its more a Mediterrean place by the looks of it. You wouldn’t see some of those ingredient combos here. For example, the Kuzu (lamb) on top of the hummus looks like something the chef invented when he was stoned. I assume that’s not the whole menu?
Also I’m always alarmed when you have comments such as “food was great, perfect experience” and then “I was eating raw meat, it was undercooked”. For me that big of a discrepancy in popular places makes me think somebody is straight up lying or is just far too hard to please, maybe they didn’t like the service and went with the snide route, it happens unfortunately. I mean it’s really hard to fuck up a basic meat dish, really hard. Then again this is in China and it could easily happen I suppose if the owners were charlatans.. I’ve had pints of Guinness in Cheltenham that should’ve had the owners of the establishment up in front of the Hague. Its hard to find “authentic”.
LT42 I’m not familiar with Turkish food, but after two weeks in quarantine hell being served basically Chinese aeroplane food on a tray, I had to try something interesting.
As ranked 90th restaurant in Shanghai, it obviously appeared a decent place to try.
I’m glad you’ve basically said it looks shite, as I will seek out more Turkish if it’s better than this.
And, no, that wasn’t the whole menu, I assume they could only be arsed putting some of their ‘best’ dishes on the web site.
A good Turkish place will have around 30 mezzes, some places even more than this. This place for example doesn’t do mains, just mezze and its amazing, the Turks and Greeks have perfected these dishes. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293974-d12232295-Reviews-Madame_Feronia_Meyhanesi-Istanbul.html
Mains in an authentic Turkish place will be really simple and done to perfection, none of this seabass cooked on a bed of spinach nonsense. And meats like lamb or beef will never be raw or undercooked, the methods they use to cook kebap would make that scenario next to impossible.
Unfortunately Turkey itself is not a viable holiday destination from either China or UK. I hate long-haul flights so aren’t going to subject myself to it. Holidays are Malaysia or in the British Isles for me.
The West Coast is very popular with UK tourists. It’s basically the same as Greece but cheaper.
