Part of it is tipping culture. Yeah, yeah…hate on tipping all you want. But like haggling for everything in Egypt it’s just how it is here. It’s also nowhere near as onerous or confusing as some make it out to be. ANYWAY. Cash tips, rather than other payment systems, have no record. Now we expect bartenders and servers to declare their cash tips, as the IRS looks at us for that, but as long as they’re reasonable we don’t care how much they actually made.
POS systems are also expensive if you want anything that can hold up for a few years and is something actually useable as well as customizable. Trying to keep up with the newest app trend is irritating and frankly not feasible - particularly here in the Bay where stupid start up culture means there’s a new one every fucking month.
For us, it’s also a culture thing. We want interaction. Sitting in the corner on your phone the entire time isn’t the vibe we want. QR menus we have, but ordering through it we’ll never do. If you don’t like that, ours isn’t the place for you. I’ll tell you all a story about when I banned computers at the bar. Nope! No laptops, dorks!
