The advantage of HS2 is not the reduction in journey times, it’s the increase in capacity. It frees up the other lines to be used more for freight and local services.

We clearly need to massively increase rail capacity and sort out the system.

It needs to run centrally to and from big cities. London, Birmingham, Leeds, and Manchester.

The Elizabeth line is a triumph.

I also agree that east west connections up and down the land need massive investment. Leeds to Manchester was a fucking embarrassment 10 years ago, let alone now. Oxford to Cambridge would be good. And we also need light rail / metro systems in many more towns and cities.

These were all problems kicked down the road 20 or 30 years ago.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, they don’t seem to have produced any real figures for the increased capacity HS2 will provide, that may have changed now, but I know it was a bugbear for the trainspotter types early on. It’s also not something that any of the government advocates were talking about, it just didn’t seem to be a selling point, which is odd because it’s should be one of the main benefits to everyone, train commuter or car commuter.

bosstrabs thick cunts who don’t know how to get off a train should be ignored for the greater good of the rest of us who need more capacity on over crowded lines.

We have had brand new trains in our line over the last couple of years so surely they should have incorporated technology to open certain doors on the train at each station.

But this is not my area od expertise, I’m just a pissed off commuter who sometimes doesn’t get a seat on an overcrowded train, even when travelling at 6:15am into london

Pretty much all trains have selective door opening. But it’s pretty complex when you suddenly introduce a 12 carriage train (from 8) to a line where the unextended platform lengths might allow 8 9 8 10 9 8 12 11 8… There is training cost, it’s better to employ a guard to do it (when many have been removed from some lines), it increases dwell times because people are spastics and flap around and can’t listen to instructions.

Of course costs are rising, there has literally been a massive supply shock.

I’m pro train for the most part, and I’m pro high speed rail, it’s more the fact that, a bit like Brexit, why would you trust this bunch of thieves and villains to do it, or do it any justice. It showed a lack of ambition from the start, and we all knew even that initial plan would be scaled back, and they’re that un interested in it they can’t be bothered to sell it properly. Paper exercise done badly.

I hope it works, I hope it gets extended, I hope it’s completed in my lifetime.
