The COVID-19 Blues
jonattonyeah Around here it’s a logistical issue. In the prior two whatever years there was an entire Covid infrastructure in place with many of us 100% FTE on that. I’m now 100% back on HIV along with most others who returned to their normal jobs. We were hoping for insurance/medical homes to take over the lead for vaccines and boosters as we, as the public department, help those with no safety net. But we seem to have some bottlenecks. The other problem is that the model used for disaster service work is taken from FEMA which is more of a military approach in the event of an earthquake or hurricane. It was never intended to be something that lasted as long as this has. Square peg, round hole. Wish I had better answers but I’m not sure what the plan is.
Yo, Jonattan, what’s it like to be challenging Hugo for the most boring poster award these days?
I don’t think I’ve bothered fully reading a Jonattan post since his last Essential Mixes Ranked one.
Paragraphs of tedium.
JTY is sound!
Someone should lock him and Amps in their own thread.
NasserAlazzawi is it true Cyprus have brought back masks indoors for public venues?
Majorca is for people who don’t have the minerals to go to Ibiza.
Yes starting just yesterday.
NasserAlazzawi that’s completely insane
What about Corfu?
I was watching a panel of experts (one from U.K. , Netherlands and somewhere else) on some news channel over here and they were noticing the public are getting fatigued with the idea of worrying about covid.
They said whilst the vaccines are less capable than normal of stopping people catching it all together, when people are vaccinated it’s more or less coming across as a bad head cold.
But what we don’t see and what breaks their heart is that - even with Omicron - there are severe hospitalisations from people who were too scared / believed the hype about being unvaccinated and many have died.
They are working on modifying the vaccine for the latest variants but their many worry is that the first line of defence may be waning if people get complacent about the fourth (or any) vaccine and they couldn’t overstate the urgency that we do keep boosting until a longer term solution is found.
There are 2 million people in the U.K. alone severely debilitated with long covid (jobs lost, a shadow of their former selves) and this scares me most - i know a few people personally with it and it’s a really grim change in quality of life.
It was a bit of a wake up call for me hearing this as I have definitely been in the ‘completed it mate’ cocky group for a while having had it in April - but the rates here are absolutley jumping here again as they are around the world - and I’m sat in peak summer cyprus where we are so much more outdoors so not looking forward to winter!
This is exactly why I got the second booster
Should I be getting a 4th jab?
The answer is yes, alongside a few right hooks and a few uppercuts.

Two years plus on from this and this thread is still providing. I’m chuffed to bits.
I honestly think COVID is basically here to stay and we’re going to be dealing with it like we deal with the flu - which in itself kills large numbers of people a year. Governments will get behind pushing people to get vaccinated during winter months as new variants and such emerge.
Any politician within their right mind - whether or not you agree - isn’t going to lock us back down again.
I got my ass absolutely handed to me in March 2020 with first wave COVID when they weren’t testing. The only reason I know this is because when I got my second vaccination, it made me feel the same way but not as severe. I’ve been a bit cocky since thinking that if I got it again it couldn’t be as bad, but considering my sister and brother in law have Long COVID, I’m not sure I should be.
Since things opened up again this past winter here in Canada, I’ve gone out more than I have in the last five years combined. I’ve desperately needed to get the rave out of me after this nearly three year disaster.
In summation; we’re all fucked.
Day 3 here, and feeling fucking awful. Mrs Vin’s fever broke on day 4, so hopeful I follow suit tomorrow.
Broadly the same symptoms as when I had it in March 2020, but noticeably milder. Not fun having it in 32c heat though. Have got a weird kinda buzzing headache as well. Not painful, but more a weird sensation. That can fuck right off n all…
