vinnyt77 alistair Read the book last year, and was hoping for good things from the TV series. Found the lead character massively irritating, and the flashback segments grated. Gave up midway through episode 2.
alistair Saw Finding Jack Charlton. Brilliant summation of the man, player and manager. Charted his career, most important moments as player and manager, his relationship with Bobby and the cruelty of dementia. Well worth watching
Jules72 alistair I’m a bit puzzled about Jack Charlton… when this documentary was released there was a wave of positive sentiment about the bloke, but didn’t people think he was a really difficult character, as well as a manager that pushed a crap-to-watch style of football…
Dubman vinnyt77 I haven’t read the book but I have watched the whole series. It’s easily the most frustrating TV show I’ve seen in a long while.
alistair vinnyt77 yep, the imaginary scenes with the dead bloke did my head in. She’s a good comic actress but her character was a complete neurotic. My wife and I stuck with it though 😂
alistair Jules72 irrespective of style, it was very effective. He took Ireland to two world cups (including a QF) and a Euros. As everyone says in the doc, he won hearts and minds and brought pride back to Ireland in what was turbulent time. Amazing to think two brothers played and won the final of a world cup for England. Incredible achievement. Comes across as very authentic and honest. The dementia and family scenes are also poignantly covered.
Dubman The Detectives ep 2 on BBC 2. More gang violence set in “Madchester” this time It was about shooting of a drug dealer in broad daylight by another gang. It’s grim but still a good watch.
Along_the_Wire Quite late to ZeroZeroZero as a few have mentioned it on here. It’s absolutely brilliant.
alistair Along_the_Wire certainly is, will never forget those pigs and the old Don’s escape hatch. Supposed to be going to Calabria in July.
Jules72 Went back to watch Big Little Lies with the GF…. probably the best series of the last few years for me. What a disappointment the Undoing was after that… Also getting through Your Honor…. still excellent after 8 episodes.
Christian last nights 24hrs in police custody will make your blood boil. truly awful person, but i won’t give away what happens
SM001 alistair I’m waiting for the series to finish so I can download them and watch at my own leisure. I won’t be dictated to by a schedule like some peasant.
Millsy I find Line of Duty unintentionally hilarious due to the fact the team charged with finding bent coppers has more bent coppers than anyone else. Plus It’s hammy as fuck and basically a poor man’s 24. I still watch it though. Not actually sure why.
Along_the_Wire Millsy This. Sunday’s episode with the new doris DSI (or whatever the fuck they call the most senior people) coming and throwing her weight around was pathetic and a completely unrealistic stereotype. The ending of that episode was like something out of Grange Hill.
