The Dance with Dragons, patriarchy and incest aside, is mostly centered around the horrors of war. This first season played out like a prologue, probably a tad bit weak in the plotting department. Though I did think it set up the upcoming tragedies quite well. I can understand why the time jumps and actor updates didn’t sit right with seasoned GOT fans, who enjoyed watching the characters grow up with the story. And yup, the dragon scenes did feel like I was watching a video game. The birthing scenes also, a bit in your face and unnecessary - seemed to be shoved in for the American audience.
Having said that, still loved the show. The subtle nuances of characters that you didn’t get in the book, and the acting was solid. What they’re doing with Rhanyera is quite intriguing. I wouldn’t write it off until the first couple of battle scenes and heftier dragon fights.
