I lasted 10 mins. It just seemed so depressing right from the start

The Sugarland Express (1974). Spielberg’s theatrical debut popped up in one of my streaming services, so figured I should watch this.

A tonally pretty uneven movie (parts of it are like The Blues Brothers, parts a tragedy) which also exhibits Spielberg’s insane talent even at such a young age. So many cool shots using car’s mirrors, going from one car to another on a highway etc. William Atherton in a rare role where he’s not an asshole, just really dumb.

Flow - really good and well deserving of the best animated movie oscar - I’ve seen nothing like it in movies (except maybe studio Ghibli) but have seen the exact tone and style in games a fuck load of times - think Ico, Shadow of the Collosus & Journey and you’ll know exactly the kind of stripped back world building and story telling it uses. Artistic masterpiece in more ways than one. 9 capybaras / 10

    Heat (1995)

Watched this for just the 2nd time today, after my first watch a couple of years ago.

It’s a 10/10 film isn’t it? I’d be interested to hear from anyone who feels otherwise. Story, acting, pacing …..it’s all first class.

Here’s a question. Best actor out of De Niro and Pacino? I’d plump for De Niro personally but it’s close

Wally meant to be ace, apparently animated with a free open source software package too.

        gcw It’s a 10/10 film isn’t it?

Yes buddy! Don’t forget to add the quality of the score. Anyone who thinks this movie is shite (JonattanYeah and Zackster) needs a good old fashioned clip around the ears.

LT42 I’m actually a bit embarrassed that I didn’t watch it for the first time until a couple of years ago. Agree on the score, as per the rest of the film it’s first class. The Moby track at the end is just perfect

Phil-McRackin ‘it is pure cinematic poetry’ - not my words, but the words of one Mark Kermode.

(Yeah, Blender what they used and is an off the shelf 3d modeller. It’s stunning to look at 👍🏻)

gcw The Moby track at the end is just perfect

            yeah powerful stuff

Wally I watched it with my 10 & 7 year old, not knowing anything about it.

We all loved it - which is pretty impressive given theres no spoken word - very poignant film

LT42 I think it’s okay, the acting is piss poor for the most part.

Presence (2024). A ghost story shot entirely from the point of view of the ghost. Steven Soderbergh does M. Knight Shyamalan very much like. Not a total success, but I’m not mad for paying to see it solo in the cinema. Monday night tickets cost 12 €, so eh?

Soderbergh also shot this movie, and talked about trying not to kill himself on the stairs in the house, which was at first all I could think of.

Along_the_Wire no better or worse than any movie of that genre, Granto. I thought DeNiro was brilliant if I’m honest, he had the perfect coldness.

Homegrove Going today, but only spending 1.59 euros. Not gold class obv.

Homegrove nothing special besides ‘the craft’ of it. Pay off at the end with the m night twist was corny and barely made sense, wonder if there will be interesting clues on second watch, but doubt ill repeat.

The Great Escape (1963). Catching up on classics again. I made proper time for this because it’s nearly three hours long but that welt really fast. I don’t know why I’ve never seen it, I guess it was never on TV here when I was a kid. Loved it.
But I’m going to have that fucking theme tune in my head for the rest of the week I’m sure.

Homegrove Great film…… Dear Dicky as Big X.

                  Vintage stuff and supreme cast.

Homegrove on every Christmas for decades since I was a kid. Absolutely loved it.

Thought I’d treat my kids to it one Christmas and got the Blu-ray of it when it first came out. They were bored shitless and the missus gave a right bollocking as I made everyone watch the lot.

I’d watch Warfare in the cinema given the chance, IMAX even better. The sound design is on another level. A taut, unrelenting 90 mins. Gets rid of all the expectations that came with Civil War, keeps things pretty straight forward, and just throws you into all the madness. 8.8 / 10

Homegrove are you sure you didn’t spend your childhood behind the iron curtain? Did your folks drive a Trabant?
