The Great Escape (1963). Catching up on classics again. I made proper time for this because it’s nearly three hours long but that welt really fast. I don’t know why I’ve never seen it, I guess it was never on TV here when I was a kid. Loved it.
But I’m going to have that fucking theme tune in my head for the rest of the week I’m sure.
Homegrove on every Christmas for decades since I was a kid. Absolutely loved it.
Thought I’d treat my kids to it one Christmas and got the Blu-ray of it when it first came out. They were bored shitless and the missus gave a right bollocking as I made everyone watch the lot.
I’d watch Warfare in the cinema given the chance, IMAX even better. The sound design is on another level. A taut, unrelenting 90 mins. Gets rid of all the expectations that came with Civil War, keeps things pretty straight forward, and just throws you into all the madness. 8.8 / 10
Along_the_Wire didn’t you do the same with 2001 A Space Oddessy?
Phil-McRackin what you get for free in Blender is fuckin crazy. I’ve been using it for 3D work for the last ten years or so, and it just gets better and better.
ye what u gonna do
Amps I did, not at Christmas mind. No-one spoke to me for the rest of the evening. Bliss.

Amps fuck knows mate. I have very few classics like this left though. Citizen Kane is one, I have never been able to get through it. Though the last time I tried was a very long time ago. Seven Samurai is probably the next big one I will try to watch at some point. Also The Third Man which I’ve already bought but have not been in a mood to watch yet. Not seen The Dirty Dozen or The Wild Bunch.
The Great Escape I ended up ordering on 4K Blu ray, I will be rewatching it a lot I am sure. UK label Arrow Video put out a very thorough release last year, snatched it while the limited edition-version remains in print. Here’s what all is included:

Saw Ad Astra for the first time last week. Was good visually in places, but I couldn’t get passed the fact that absolutely nothing interesting happened. Good idea, awful result.
Black Hawk Down (2001). Pregaming for Warfare. This is still one of the most amazing combat movies ever made from the technical perspective. Otherwise is it’s pro military propaganda, but damn do I love this movie. This was my first time watching after upgrading our home theatre to proper surround sound, and man did the sound design in this movie made it money well spent.
