The Shining. I posted about buying the 4K Blu Ray recently, finally gave it a watch. Besides looking amazing (best remaster of an old movie I’ve ever seen) it also had the US cut which I’d never seen before. 23 minutes longer than the International Cut, not sure if it was better. I don’t think it needed 5 minutes of Halloran organizing transportation for example.

But yeah, get the 4K. It’s really fucking good.

Not really one for this thread but I sat down yesterday with my 5 year old son and we watched ‘Encanto’. I was astounded at the quality of the animation, easily the best I have ever seen. Stuff like that just blows my mind how they create it. I know modern TVs help but even so this was visually fantastic.

The director’s cut of Doctor Sleep. 3,5/5. It was three hours long, and number my butt, but there’s a lot of good stuff in there. Rebecca Ferguson looking insanely hot as the villain for instance. Lot of monologues, Flanagan loves those as anyone who’s watched Midnight Mass can verify.

The Killer - David Fincher does John Wick. Decent and really well produced but there’s not much to it in terms of story or depth. 8 (mainly for the brilliant opening section) body bags / 10

As expected, john wick 4 is unwatchable. I mostly stopped paying attention after the first 38 minute fight scene and shut it off well before the end.

I watched Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves on Tuesday, because Rewatchables did a pod on it. It was fucking hilarious in how awful it was, I’d not seen it since 1993 or so. That said, if it was nothing but all Alan Rickman all the time it would have been 5/5.

The Killer: This was pretty light for a David Fincher movie, quite easy and fun to consume, didn’t feel dense like most of his other movies. Standard hit man plot, but packaged tight with genius pacing. Overall sound design and soundtrack is also clever - Trent and Atticus. Good balance of psychological and action thriller, with some dark humour running through. Loved it. 8.9 / 10
