Manhunter (1986). I’d bought the Studio Canal Blu Ray-release awhile back, never watched it, until tonight. Magnificent. I’d seen this one before, but now in glorious HD remaster it really is a really well shot movie. Can’t think of another one from the 80s with this much auteur florish. Michael Mann was really going for it here with his cinematographer.
As a movie it is of course also better than Brett Rattner’s Red Dragon (Ralph Fiennes was almost as good and creepy in that as Tom Noonan is in this as Dolarhyde), and Brian Cox is a really scary Lecter. William Peterson gets praised for his portrayal of William Graham, but I think he hams it up a bit.
