Tar. We both loved it. Maybe a bit long, but otherwise every bit in it worked, Cate Blanchett most of all of course.

Tar was too much for my little brain to deal with. I don’t know how someone who wasn’t a native English speaker could take all that in. I’m talking about the amount of verbal nuance and the sheer amount of words and ideas, piled on top of the subtext and visual messaging. It was a very dense and multilayered film. The sort of thing I’d want to watch with some earbuds and a laptop and some good weed. I found it a bit much tbh.

I didn’t have particular issues with it, I had more trouble with the fact that half of the German was not subtitled. Deffo a rewatch, nobody will notice everything in it on one watch.

I’m expecting comments about the 80s synth soundtrack, and everything being ‘of its time’. I saw it first back in the 90s and before SOLT came out, so the whole Hannibal Lecter thing was new. To me it felt very similar to my first viewing of Angel Heart.

Right, the Mindhunter review is in. Massively hammy 80’s pensive staring off into the distance rubbish, but as mentioned, beautifully sinister baddies, great narrative that builds to what feels like quite the rushed ending. Molly would get some. 7.5/10

Saltburn. Quite a turn from Barry Keoghan - it must be intentional, but with the worst Scouse accent you’ve ever heard. Dark, funny, mental, horrible and stupid. Loved it - read some ropey reviews after - Peter Bradshaw can be a miserable cunt, can’t he? Annoying it’s in 4:3 and not widescreen, but even so - 8.5/10.

The Killer. Thoroughly enjoyable film with the added bonus of Smiths tunes. It felt like watching 5 mission sequences from GTA, but all immaculately done. More shizzle like this and Saltburn please. Another 8.5/10
