Afire 2023

slow burning low budget German drama about a couple of artsy guys who go to a peaceful spot to work on their respective creative projects over the summer and meet an unexpected fitty there.

reminded me of the sort of random foreign stuff you might come across late at night on bbc2 in the 90s that would only appeal to a small audience and is not really obviously about anything in particular and just plays out in a naturalistic way. There’s a scene where the guy sort of spies on the woman, if this was the nineties she’d have stripped off and went for a skinny dip. You know the sort of film.

I liked it a lot.

Tenet (2020). Second time watching, I saw this at the theaters very nervous in the summer of 2020. Being indoors with other people at that time… It was better second time, but still far from Nolan’s usual standards. Sure the action is amazing, but otherwise it lacks soul. Elizabeth Debicki was amazing on second viewing though, she’s a swan in human form.

Homegrove Just a heads up as you’ve been given some bad advice, the rocky movies are legitimately terrible. You know what Stallone sounds like when he talks, now imagine that dummy writing and “acting” in a movie. Still miles better than that Creed movie, that one explored new levels of awful.

C_J The only good things about that series is Mr T and the training montage in Russia from the 4th one. The dialogue is so fucking bad and the fight scenes look like they were choreographed by a child.

Homegrove Worth watching once just so you have a qualified opinion to back me up here. 😂

Anatomy of a Fall. Sort of okay, but all seems a bit daft when they get to court. The scenes there with the kid are just not credible and it just wouldn’t have happened. Seems to run right out of ideas. 5/10
