Homegrove American Fiction was good. At times the satire felt painted with too broad strokes, but then I thought this is probably just accurate.
Wasily Zone Of Interest (2024) Wife dragged me to this Polish production about a Nazi family living next to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Has the actress in ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ in it. Basically about the normalisation of life while genocide is being committed over the other side of the garden fence. But no explanation of how they manage it, or any difficult discussions or anything really. One uncomfortable scene where the camp managers are having a discussion about maximising the ‘efficiency’ of the project by building a concentric rotating furnace that’s always active but otherwise just people doing their daily life with smoke coming out a big chimney in the background. 3/10
Wasily Along_the_Wire 3/10 is a bit harsh. I’d just had a lovely dinner at Barrafina beforehand and maybe wasn’t in the mood for it. I just didn’t think the movie challenges the viewer like it could have done. The easy option was to assume they’re all sociopaths and nothing was provided to challenge that view- no warmth to any of the characters, no moral dilemmas, no issues wearing clothes of the deceased or taking their possessions etc. Maybe it’s a realistic depiction of how it was and everything was just ‘normalised’.
Homegrove We’re waiting for streaming too. I expect to think it a good movie, but don’t want to pay to be made to feel bad. Which pretty much everyone who’s seen it has said happens.
Homegrove Wasily I think it was like that. Dune: Part Two. An incredible sci fi masterpiece. Epic story telling. No notes. Grant will hate it. Oh, and my celebrity shag list as approved by my wife is now updated. All five slots are Rebecca Ferguson.
Millsy Homegrove she’s fantastic. I thought part one was a bit shit really but I’m still hopeful for part 2.
Homegrove Millsy this makes part one make more sense. This wasn’t a sequel, but a straight up story continuation. The balls on Denis Villeneuve to trust he gets to actually do two movies coming off from Blade Runner 2049. It’s a great movie, but bombed. He had no guarantees the masses would like his Dune any better than they did his Blade Runner.
