The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). That’s more like it Mr. Anderson. First rewatch somehow, Wes Anderson’s peak. For good and for bad he got to do whatever he pleased after this. Ralph Fiennes was snubbed at the Oscars, one of the best performances of the 2010s.

Trap: Watched this last week with extremely low expectations, was interested to see how Josh Hartnett would land a serial killer role. It was entertaining, kinda reminded me of that Nic Cage movie, Snake Eyes. Only it’s not boxing but a teeny bopper concert. Shymalan’s daughter in a lead role as well. Worth a watch if you’re a girl dad. 6.7 / 10

Rewatched Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou today, and first time watched The Darjeeling Limited too, so will have to finish my Anderson-journey with Isle of Dogs I guess, as I’ve never seen it. Life Aquatic was better on a rewatch, The Darjeeling Limited I also liked.

Three movies on one day is pretty hardcore even for me.

I re-watched A History of Violence with the missus who’d never seen it. Needless to say, she didn’t like it. It was pretty good, but definitely not as good as I remember 6/10

Along_the_Wire William Hurt getting an Oscar nomination for that is probably the Oscar nod for the shortest amount of screen time. It’s also really hammy, though I do love his performance in it.

Millsy There’s been a spate of these documentaries on these classic movies. I’ve just seen Aliens Expanded which was a 5 hour exploration of, surprisingly, James Cameron’s Aliens. TBF I was a bit disappointed as it was average compared to the excellent Robodoc (Robocop doc) on Prime but did learn some amusing facts e.g. Michael Biehn’s Hicks was substituted in for a Hicks played by James Remar (Biehn was busy filming Terminator but Remar got busted at Pinewood for buying heroin and coke and was deported). There are a few scenes still in Aliens with the original Hicks.

I love the Thing- builds tension like no other horror film and the isolated location helps massively. I’ll watch this for sure.

Did someone here mention Children of Men? Thought it was bang average in the cinema, but sure I read somewhere it was worth a rewatch given the current climate. It’s a very, very good film and a little eerie. Really loved it. Gets a whopping 9/10.
