Amps way too early. Most likely drinking already quite heavily. All Bachman-books are quite bleak, and half were written before Carrie when he was still young. Of the five The Long Walk is the best, and it’s quite high on the list of all of King’s works IMO. People have tried to make a movie out of it too forever, but it’s pretty difficult book to adapt.
It’s set in a dystopian future like The Running Man, and also has a reality TV-setting. The competition is that 100 18 year old boys walk, until only one is left. If your walking speed drops below a certain speed you’ll get shot. As in killed. On TV.
