The tone and pacing of PTA’s movies can be a bit weird and disjointed upon first watch. The Master and Phantom Thread both took two watches before I “got it”. Not sure I like either of those films as an enjoyable experience, but they’re beautifully shot and incredibly unique.

jonattonyeah Glad you mentioned the Phantom Thread. It is an exquisite, emotionally unsettling film with two great female performances. A return to form after the disappointing Inherent Vice. Still think Hard Eight is tough to beat.

Titane. Alexia loves cars, a bit too much and she kills people. Takes off in one direction then goes in another. Pretty unique….. gross, touching, weird.

Boiling Point (2021)

Stephen Graham improvises his way around a busy kitchen in single tracking shot. The fly-on-the-wall style puts you right really there until some of the improv reminds you otherwise. Graham is always watchable but is given little to work with here other than the mundanity of catering work.

About as thrilling as a night spent washing pots.

It seems to have garnered generally favourable reviews G, so it’s possible mine’s an outlier and negatively biased by my time in professional kitchens as a yoot.

I like Graham and I like this type of movie though (or so I thought, anyway…) just didn’t butter my muffin and felt longer than its run-time. Felt contrived and directionless to me. Hope you get more out of it than i did.

Watched Promising Young Woman last night. Enjoyable, unsettling, funny, sad and powerful. Was hoping she would find some happiness. Career best performance from Carey Mulligan. Not a first date movie! 8 Marcus Mumfords out of 10. Sound track worked big time too
