Saw Queen & Slim yesterday. A poignant film given BLM situation in the US. Some silly bits, but I think that might’ve been the point and I just didn’t like some of them, but overall a good watch - 7/10

Saw Motherless Brooklyn eventually, what a brilliant film - star turns everywhere, and a very successful attempt at neo-noir. 9/10

Along_the_Wire Don’t let nostalgia cloud your vision.

Roadhouse is obviously not a great movie, but I do enjoy it.

Point Break, on the other hand, is a good movie. Kathryn Bigelow is a fantastic director; it took some guts to take Ted Theodore Logan and put him in an action role; the Presidential masks is an excellent wrinkle; Bodhi’s hair is tremendous; the guy from Red Hot Chili Peppers is in it and his friend’s name is “Warchild”; Swayze throws a dog at Keanu.

jonattonyeah Bigelow is okay and that’s about the best I can say. It deserves nothing for Swayze, Reaves and the fucking Red Hot Chilli Peppers alone.

The Mule with Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper. Enjoyable. Funny and poignant too. The scenes round Andy Garcia’s gaffe with the two senoritas and Clint were priceless.

Along_the_Wire K-19 The Widowmaker is a decent flick. That’s one of Bigelow’s efforts.

Point Break is a guilty pleasure film of mine. Yes it’s cheesy as hell Americana, but enjoyable all the same.

Benicio Del Toro just slays that movie. He’s so good. And yeah it’s still good.

Fun fact, Stephen Baldwin was offered the lead in “Speed” but turned it down so he could wear white-dude dreads and co-star with Pauly Shore in “Biodome”.

jonattonyeah fenster is the best character, the line up scene still makes me laugh. and that sounds like a stephen baldwin decision, there’s no way biodome looked good on paper.

They were all laughing in the line up-scene because Del Toro kept farting. The director was angry on set, but decided to use it in the end.

Speaking of Bryan Singer, it never dawned on me that he and Kevin Spacey were both in it. Maybe they molested some kids together while filming.

There Will Be Blood (2007)

Apparently quite Marmite for some on this board, but an absolute masterpiece for me. The music. The pacing. The fractured, anxious dialogue. DDL throws a perfect game. And, IMO, PTA is the only person who could pull this kind of movie off.

9.9/10.

Never get tired of it.

jonattonyeah personally found this unremittingly grim… and in a similar way to Joker last year, not for me. I do like a little bit of happiness, thrill or pleasure in a film I’ll admit - films as relentlessly depressing as this provide me with no viewing pleasure

No Country for Old Men, which came out around the same time, on the other hand was superb imo…

Yeah one those flicks you can always dip in and out of. The acting and dialogue is absolutely brilliant. DDL at the peak of his powers.

Watched Pet Sematary last night as I remembered it was unsettling when I was younger. Complete tripe. So bad.

LT42 Watched Pet Sematary last night as I remembered it was unsettling when I was younger.

The Kingcast is a podcast where two hosts and one guest talk about a King story, and usually it’s adaptation too for an hour. I’ve really enjoyed it. This week just happened to be about Pet Sematary and it’s 1989 adaptation. That is one book I read a few times as a teenager, but as an adult it works in a completely different way. I tried it a few years ago, but it was too oppressive to enjoy it when you know where it’s going, and even as a childless person, when it’s about the death of your child.

Along_the_Wire nah the original. One or two creepy scenes but it looked like one of those made for TV flicks you’d see on late at night. Not like how I remembered it at all.
