I’ll give the Oscars this….they usually get the nominations right. They just fuck up the winner constantly. And yeah Smith had the fifth best performance in KR. That movie is just alright.

Homegrove Not sure exactly why I like this movie so much, but I do. It’s got a vibe I like. Also, that dog is well fucking trained; I’m betting he left a few sore decoys in his wake.

American Psycho (2000)

Odd, odd movie. I don’t remember it when it came out but I’m guessing it was misunderstood. The author comes across as an absolute cunt in every interview I’ve ever read so wouldn’t be surprised if it got some eyerolls, but the satire is pretty good. It’s certainly more of a comedy than some slasher/thriller flick (which it was likely pitched as); a mix of “The Joker” and “Wolf of Wall Street” but without the director talent. Bale saves some absolutely useless scenes. He’s fantastic. Again, Joker/Wolf of Wall Street absurdity in the performance.

Always wanted to print those cards and hand them out at some shit works do.

It’s a full blown cult classic nowadays and one of my fav films. Fucked up shit central. 9.5/10 no matter how obsurd or daft it gets. Don’t think anyone ever took it seriously other than thickets.
It only loses the .5 because the author never did come clean, although he’s been grilled many times it’s still open to interpretation on if he dreamt the whole thing up being clinically insane or his dad emptied the apartment. Or maybe a bit of both.

Homegrove there’s a great interview with Bale where he had a meeting with the director, said he felt he wasn’t right for the part because he thought it was a comedy satire rather than a slasher flick and the director was ‘that’s exactly it’.

I’ll dig it out, well worth a read.

It’s got some immense scenes in it. The business card one and Paul Alan getting his comeuppance to a deep analysis of Huey Lewis and the news for sure.

It just doesn’t lean all the way in. Parts of it are hilarious and, again, Bale is great. But, for me, there are large swaths of the film that fall very flat. Could’ve been excellent in the hands of a better director and with some editing. Bale completely carry’s it.

If you like the flick I would recommend the book, most of it is unfilmable, but funny as fuck. Probably Easton Ellis’ best work, but I have a soft spot for his early stuff and the opening chapters of Lunar Park made me laugh so hard on the train I snotted all over myself and the bloke sat opposite me.

American Psycho is great. That line “No, I’m Patrick Bateman, you stupid bastard.” Gets me every time. Bale is peaking in this.

Rubbish. You have to take it for what it is face value.
It’s just another Quentin rehash, but stoned it’s highly enjoyable. You know it’s coming because that’s his formula but it works. Some of the scenes were completely ridiculous but that’s what you expect from one of his films isn’t it? Like only fools and horses with gratuitous violence..

More of an Ebert guy, LT. His review of “Step Brothers” is an all timer. Poor guy has a full on existential crisis.
